Education Services
Our workshops are designed by dementia experts to help you build your knowledge base and coping skills. Workshops cover a wide variety of topics, including diagnosis and treatment of dementia, home safety, legal and financial planning, communication and cognitive changes, brain healthy lifestyle, and memory enhancement.
More than 70 educational classes or seminars are offered throughout the year at the center and in the local community. Community-based locations include senior centers, churches, non-profit agencies, independent residential living communities, and hospitals in the Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and Newport Beach area.
All educational programs are offered free of charge.
For Caregivers and Loved Ones in Early Alzheimer's Disease
Jump Start - During the earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease, caregivers and their loved ones receive the information and support they need to cope with challenging issues such as giving up driving. Across eight weeks, the partners learn from experts and participate in separate support groups with their peers. Partners have the opportunity to reapply for additional eight-week sets of sessions.
Memory Boosters - A four-week series that provides information on dementia and ways to partners can work together to enhance memory.
For All Caregivers
Caregiver & Family Workshops - Workshops are open to the entire family and typically held in the evening at a variety of locations. Click here for the schedule of upcoming workshops.
For Health Care Professionals
Physician Seminars - Expert physicians address the everyday difficulties doctors have in managing older adult patients with cognitive impairment. Doctors learn how to better identify dementia, benefits and side effects of anti-dementia medications, and community resources that can provide the support patients and caregivers need between visits. Presentations are offered over dinner at a local restaurant.
Health Care Professional Seminars - Seminars for nurses, social workers, and other allied health care professionals address a variety of topics, ranging from dementia treatment and care to family caregiving.
Community
Memory Fitness - A fun and interactive four-week series of classes in which individuals learn the warning signs for Alzheimer's disease, ways to reduce the risk for dementia, and strategies to improve memory.
Memory Picnic - Attendees enjoy a "brain healthy lunch" during this two-hour class that covers the warning signs for Alzheimer's disease, memory enhancement strategies, and how lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet, can reduce your risk for cognitive impairment.
